Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
